Professor Javad Parvizi, MD, FRCS, is one of the world's leading experts in orthopaedics, reconstructive hip and knee surgery and the management of periprosthetic joint infection, with more than 35 years of clinical, academic and teaching experience. He trained in medicine at the University of Sheffield (UK), completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic (USA) and his reconstructive joint surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University and the Hip Society–Müller Foundation (Switzerland). For many years he chaired the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University (Philadelphia, USA); he is currently Professor at Acıbadem University and a consultant to Acıbadem Healthcare Group (Istanbul).
Professor Parvizi is the founder and chairman of the International Consensus Meeting (ICM) on periprosthetic joint infection, President of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS), past President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), and a board or honorary member of leading orthopaedic societies worldwide, including The Hip Society, The Knee Society, AAHKS, ORS and EOA.
He has authored more than 1,000 scientific publications, monographs and textbooks and is among the most cited authors in world orthopaedics (over 105,000 citations, h-index 155).
